New Orleans Mission Recovery Trip

Being God's hands and feet

March 11-17, 2006 a group of twelve Montgomery County Community College students from Veritas Christian Fellowship Club gave up their Spring Break to go and serve people in New Orleans, Louisiana after the region suffered a major blow to its infrastructure from Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane destroyed everything on its path, leaving many homeless and some losing their loves ones. The Veritas club partnered with Campus Crusade for Christ Disaster Relief to help many to start lives all over again.

The group stayed in St. Bernard Parish, New Orleans, in Good News Camp-a Chritian organized facility and financed by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).

The group's main tasks were to gut out the houses which were left untouched for over 6 months. Bringing out everything from the houses outside for FEMA to dispose off. But most importantly, showing others the love of Christ through the hard work. During their stay, the group met a couple who lost their both houses and were staying in FEMA provided trailers. Gwen and Rodney became the group's main hosts who twice cooked for them a real southern meal. Over the course of one week, the group was able to work on six different houses by splitting into small groups.
